There are compulsory registrations that need to take place for every expat that plans to stay in the Netherlands for longer than three months. Most subscriptions in The Netherlands do not accept foreign bank accounts (such as: utilities, health insurance, phone contract etc.). We highly recommend that long-term residents obtain a Dutch bank account as soon as they register in the Netherlands and we can arrange it.

To open a bank account in the Netherlands you will need the following documents:

  • Your BSN number (Burgerservicenummer)
  • A valid form of ID (passport or identity card)
  • Proof of address (i.e. a rental contract)
  • Residency permit if you come from outside of the EU
